Eli Kicks off the Birthday Season

Every year we look forward to Eli kicking off birthday season in mid-September.  12 year-old is a big deal, requiring a big cake to feed this growing young man.

It's considered poor parenting to serve nothing but cake for dinner, so we made some tasty lasagna to go along with it.

Oh, and let's not forget the overnight baked french toast and sausage for breakfast.  It was a day of indulgence.

Eli was the first person to have friends over since the pandemic.  We masked up and let the boys enjoy pizza and playtime.

We'd originally planned on walking over to B&D Burgers for milkshakes, but they decided they'd rather stay home and play some more.

That evening Eli had a baseball game.  For some reason he was in the midst of an unlucky streak and kept getting hit by the ball.  Poor guy!  It's not a very comfortable way to get on base.

That evening we made up for it with some birthday presents.  The BB8 comes courtesy of Talia.

As for the Lego set, Jason and I were going to get Eli something practical but decided this was far more fun.

Every tween loves gift cards!  Eli used his to buy a speed Rubiks cube that he can now solve way faster than his father.

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays, Eli!  We were delighted the day you were born...

...but we are even more proud of the kind, inquisitive, and principled young man you have become.

May this whole year shine brightly!

Eli is my favorite 12 year-old in the entire universe. He thinks of the welfare of others at a very young age; a good friend and example. I've enjoyed having him accompany me to College World Series games. Keep smiling and remember who you are cheeze stik!
