50 Days!

It's October 21st, my friends!  How does time pass so quickly?  No, seriously.  How does it even happen?

Lots on my heart today.  This morning I sat down to compose a letter of gratitude to Annika's donor family.  Our hospital social worker recommended we wait a year, but these past few weeks I've been feeling like it's time. Annika is doing so well.  While Annie was sick, it was easy to question whether transplant was the right step forward.  Watching her hike with our family this fall break, it became so clear that transplant has given her not only the gift of life, but the gift of a better life.  New worlds are open, and we are delighted.

Brooklyn is on my mind today as well.  Friends, our girl comes home in 50 days.  50!  That is so stinking short!  December 10th, 8pm, SLC airport, mark the date--you're all welcome! She is in her very last transfer, not only training with lovely Hermana Barber, but also welcoming a second set of sisters in the very same area they just opened last transfer.  Fuenlabrada is on fire, and I feel tickled to realize that our sweet Brooklyn helped light the flame.

Now I just can't wait for Brooklyn to bring that beautiful spark back to Salt Lake where she will be speaking on December 14th.  Right in this very chapel.  Walking up these very steps.  Precisely one year post-transplant for her little sis.  (Brooklyn sure missed an exciting 18 months!) These may be the steps where Annie collapsed in 2022, but they are also the steps she currently races up and down with her beautiful shared heart, darting outside as soon as services are over so that she can climb a tree.

Life moves full circle.  Broken hearts can make for some bittersweet farewells, but homecomings are oh-so-sweet.  I'm giddy with anticipation!  Brooklyn, I promise there will be plenty of delicious pie.

Thoughtful post. I'm also experiencing a huge anticipation of Brooklyn's safe and honorable return. Our family is being so richly blessed by her positive messaging and service. Keep Smiling Buttermilk!
