Labor Day 2025 in the High Uintas

Can you tell I'm on a mission to get caught up on this blog?  May I present to you the next beautiful photo dump.

Labor Day 2025: Backpacking Ruth Lake with the Wilhoits, plus our pups!  The Wilhoits had never been backpacking before, so this 1 night, 1 mile trek felt like the perfect introduction.

We found this beautifully painted rock at the beginning of our trail.  Just the inspiration we needed.

Anders's pint-sized pack is the cutest!

Looking at the a couple of the best dads anywhere.

Growing up, Callie had the most camping/backpacking experience, having attended a high adventure backpacking Wider Opportunity with Girl Scouts.  They were hard core, even swallowing their toothpaste to ensure that they left no trace!

Mi primo, mi amigo.

Made it,

Cute camp!  Although, if I had it do over again, I might not set all the tents up quite so close together.  If someone rolled over two tents away, you heard it as if they were right in the tent with you.

Ruth Lake--stunning as always.

We regularly attempt to fish, but I'm pretty sure this pole has never caught anything.  Ah well, it's all about the experience anyway.  Personally, I don't enjoy the experience of gutting fish.

Cooking up our sausages for dinner.

Thanks to the Wilhoits, this was our very first experience backpacking with chairs.  Amazing!  Now that I've been so pampered, I'm not sure I can go back.

Pickles and Zion had a grand ole' time chasing each other in circles for hours.

The sun started to set just as it was time for dessert and cocoa.

Red 40 anyone?  We decided that Danish Dessert tastes like liquid jolly ranchers.  Or cough syrup.  Either way, we didn't eat much because we needed our littlest campers to sleep.

Rise and shine for breakfast!

The next morning we hiked to one of the upper lakes before heading out.  Eli is a master at skipping rocks.  One of his nearly made it to the opposite shore.

Packing out.

We made Zion carry his own poo.  Seemed fair.

We had a pampered surprise waiting for us at the end of our trip.  Being Memorial Day, NomiAnn and Papa Kay drove out and treated us to a delightful picnic lunch of fruit salad and garden gazpacho.  I can't tell you how good fresh vegetables taste after a couple days of dried backpacking fare.

But wait!  The story gets so much better!  Justin, Brianna, Violet, Ruby, Charles, Susie, and Christy were all there too!  What a great party.  We met up at Mirror lake for an expanded family reuniion.

Thank you Mom for providing such a special experience!

Cousin party!  It is so fun that this crew all knows each other and gets along.  Yesterday was Justin's birthday and while I couldn't make it because of work, the Wilhoits were there.  :)

Time to pull out the paddleboards and kayaks.

Meanwhile the landlubbers enjoyed cornhole.

Thanks to everyone for making Memorial Day 2025 so special!
