June Jamboree

I can't remember if I've shared this picture before, but Hermana Wheeler we miss you!  This gal is working so hard at staying focused, but here on the home front we are counting down the weeks.  She flies home December 10th, arriving the 11th.  Oh joy!

Brooklyn is doing remarkably well in Spain.  She's been transferred back to Madrid (Fuenlabrada) where she is both opening a new area and training a brand-new missionary from the Tri-Cities area.  There are plenty of challenges, but they are seeing wonderful growth with their friends and Brooklyn always seems to have a smile.

Now for Brooklyn's p-day amusement, may I share my wonderful cooking skills.  Callie, these might be a little too charred for even you.

Next up, the Living Traditions Festival.  Plenty of deja vu playing the alphorn!  Austria was good to me.

This family is pretty darn good to me as well.

I'm not a huge impulse buyer, but I saw this and immediately wanted it in our home.

Okay, so these photos are coming to you in whatever random way they pop up.  Father's Day!  We celebrated Charles, Adam, and Jason up in Hyde Park.  I'm so glad that our families enjoy spending time together!

I can't recall where the henna painting came from.  Maybe Ruby can remind me?

Back to the men, Dads really are the best.

Home in Salt Lake, we celebrated the re-opening of the rooftop at the Main Library.  It seems appropriate that Annika would choose that spot to read.

Of course, reading atop an inflatable unicorn is pretty great too.  At her most recent parent teacher conferences, many of Annika's teachers (including her math and band teachers) reported that she is a great reader.  Apparently it can be hard to get her attention at times!  Definitely following in the footsteps of her siblings.

One thing Annika is NOT particularly great at yet is cleaning her room.  It got so out of control that I finally picked it up for her and took pictures so that I could remember what it could look like.

She'd likely do a better job of keeping it clean if I bribed her with these crepes that we got downtown.  Yum.

Of course, B&D Burgers are pretty good too.

Shortly after, we sent Annika off for a week of fun at Brighton Girls Camp.  It was pretty scary letting her go so soon after transplant, but we made arrangements to ensure that all of her meds would be given on time, and hoped for the best!

Sadly she came back with the first of many mouth sores, but besides that it was great. :)

Meanwhile, Jason and I went for an evening hike up near Ensign Peak.

The sunset was stunning!  The brilliant photos are Jason's.

Enjoying the Utah Symphony as they performed at the Utah Cultural Center.

We had a water main break by our house (AGAIN) so the city tore up our yard (AGAIN.)  Good thing my hubby is handy with sprinklers.

No better way to handle stress than getting outdoors.  Talia, Zion and I took a trip up Adams Canyon.  Only Talia was brave enough to get in.  That spring runoff is chilly!

Brave or crazy?  I suspect both.

I conned Callie into hiking Lake Blanche with me as well.  Tough but totally worth it, especially with the wildflowers.

The butterflies were delightful; the wasps--not so much.

Party on!

Speaking of a party, check out Anders' smile as he rides Papa Kay's big bike. Talia was hoping she could adopt it, but alas, her legs were a little too short as well.

In June we slipped away for a 4th Avenue neighborhood campout up at Brighton Meadows, all thanks to our friends the Richins who reserved the site and came up from St. George to play.  I wish I'd taken a few more photos of the fun!

Brian, Talia, and Maya.

Aida and Ross.

Maya's friend, Eric, and Rachel.

Playing at the lake in the morning was so fun!  Annika wasn't allowed to swim this year, but we did let her paddleboard.

Of course, she wasn't supposed to swim in Bear Lake while at Youth Conference either, but after a couple of hours paddle-boarding she lost her balance and fell in.  In the end, she came home with both wet clothes and a sunburn.  Oops.

More Bear Lake adventures.  Annika didn't feel awesome, so the trip was meh for her.  I wish I had photos of Talia there--I think she had a great time.

If you need proof that Talia's all grown up, I now have to stand on a table to braid her hair.

Girls Camp and Youth Conference may be tough for a kid with medication-induced mouth sores and stomach aches, but sewing camp with Ms. Jane was perfect!  Check out the adorable walrus Annika made.

Eli! We were so glad to have this handsome fella home after his meanderings around Europe with Uncle Ben and Aunt Christy. (More on that later.)

Labwork is always better when accompanied by a gelato and a giant frog.

But best of all is being accompanied by a friend.  Keep smiling!
