The Big Apple

From Omaha, we drove 960 miles to Toronto, Canada.  The roads moved well until we got close to the Windy City.  Even though we never saw the skyline, Chicago definitely slowed us down a bit.  Still, the prairie lands were pretty.

Dinner at Panera, near the Canadian border.

Crazy hair the next day!  We went to church (a Spanish-speaking Canadian congregation), then got back on the road to Quebec City.

Running low on car snacks, we stopped off at the Big Apple in in Colborne, Ontario to try and find some dinner.  Driving by on the interstate, I'd seen this giant apple and was curious about all the fuss.

Turns out you can wander right inside that giant apple!

The view from the top felt very Canadian, eh.

Checking out the rest of the complex. This place was intense!

Inside there's this massive apple pie factory.  Nearly 8 million pies baked, and counting!

Unable to resist, we picked one up to share with family in Quebec.

In order to stave off the immediate hunger, the kids ordered these delicious grilled cheese sandwiches made on apple bread.  It was probably the tastiest grilled cheese I've ever had.

As for myself, I wanted to try the poutine.  Fries, cheese curds, and gravy.  Who knew?  I think my arteries thank me for not indulging earlier in life.

And Annie?  She talked us into a giant gummy snake instead of an apple pastry.  To each their own.

It was quite late by the time we rolled into Quebec City.  We were exhausted, both physically and mentally, and grateful to collapse safely into bed.  Driving cross-country is a lot of work, but full of unexpected adventure!
