Easter 2020

Our last post left off with a discussion of masks.  Well, shortly before Easter, two masked bandits show up on our doorstep.  Papa Kay and NomiAnn braved the trek across Nebraska and Wyoming to spend Easter with us!  We have the best grandparents.

On Saturday we headed to the Capitol to enjoy the blossoms and some rocket balloons.

Oh, and frisbee too.  Talia seems concerned that Captain America's shield is going to take her out.

Our Tally Wally takes the prettiest photos.

I don't know what I like more--the blossoms or the shadows.

A lovely place for bike riding as well.

Just think, Papa Kay clerked here as a law student four decades ago.

Our message to the world, left on the Capitol sidewalk.

While the Capitol grounds were busy, the Salt Lake City Temple grounds were nearly empty.  Perhaps most people assumed Temple Square was closed because of construction?

It was lovely having the entire place to ourselves, but it made me a little sad that all of the spring flowers were going largely unnoticed.

We sure appreciated them.  Also, we appreciated the masks NomiAnn sewed for our entire family.

More of Talia's nature photography.

Really though, I think God should get most of the credit.

Four kids and still in love.

This picture sums up how Annika feels about the pandemic.  For the first three weeks, she went around pouting, "It's all corona's fault!"

Papa Kay's opinion of the virus isn't much higher.  I'm just grateful for temples to help us keep an eternal perspective.

Families are forever.

Back at home, it was time to dye Easter eggs.

With such bright colors, you can't help but smile.

Sunday morning: despite the pandemic, the Easter bunny arrived.

In fact, were it not for COVID, Talia wouldn't have had time to crochet this cutie.

Appropriate quarantine gifts included a woodburning kit...

...and several kites.  Go Krakens!

The Easter bunny also brought the zoo home with the addition of 8 caterpillars, 20 worms, and a tadpole to our menagerie

Easter Sunday included a beautiful home church service...

...followed by the obligatory photo shoot.

We painted Easter cookies, courtesy of our neighbors, the Dutsons.

So fun!

Then we headed to "This is the Place" to try out our new kites.

Surprisingly, the grounds were open to walk around.  Here are NomiAnn and Papa Kay in front of the Andrus Halfway House, constructed in 1858 by Lucy Tuttle, the third wife of Papa Kay's great-grandfather, Milo.

Annika was more interested in the goats.

Back at home, it was time for our backyard Easter egg hunt.  Ready, set...

...Go!  Very impressive leap, Eli.

Last but not least, our Easter feast.

We very rarely break out the china, but when we do, dinner feels so celebratory.

NomiAnn and Papa Kay, thanks so much for making the long drive to spend Easter with us, even during these extraordinary times.
We sure love you.  Keep smiling!

Cathy and “anonymous” enjoyed a much more joyous Easter while being in the presence of young, I cynical, and idealistic grandchildren. We wore masks and gloves at every fuel and rest stop during our quick, long I-80 drives. All is well that ends well.

The first comment should include the word “uncynical,” ... Darn autocorrect.
