Caroling Reindeer

For Family Home Evening on Monday, we threw together an impromptu caroling party. Two days prior, we spread the word that any friends who wanted to join us for the festivities could meet us at our housing complex's community room. Everybody brought yummy soup to share, after which we bundled up and walked over to the retirement center next door. While I had called in advance to see if we could come, I started to get a bit nervous when no one answered the door. Fortunately, a kind man eventually let us in and we were able to carol for those playing cards upstairs. While our performance may not have been note-perfect, I think it nevertheless carried a bit of the Spirit of Christmas. These great-grandmas and grandpas seemed happy to sing along and smile at our little ones.

It's always more work than you expect to put together even a small gathering. The girls and I started to make candy cane reindeer to pass out at the retirement center, but unfortunately ran out of time. So, here's a picture of the herd, caroling a happy song on our kitchen table instead.

Those are the cutest reindeer i've ever seen! You are one crafty mamma (wish we lived closer so you could rub off on me)! How fun to take your girls (and neighbors) caroling. I'm sure it meant a lot more than you think it did to the residents at the retirement home. I love Christmas.

I love their noses!

Yes, the noses look like lights on a Christmas tree--bright and happy! What a fun idea, and after having gone to nursing homes to sing at Christmas time and wondering if it was worth the effort, it definitely IS worth it. Music speaks to the soul, especially familiar music! It would have been fun to have joined in with you.

You know how to do Christmas right! I am guessing the girls will always remember the night with happy thoughts!

My favorite scene in "It's a Wonderful Life" is when all the friends come to sing to George (I think that's his name) when he needs their help and encouragement. You have no idea how much it meant for Brittney and I to have you all come sing to us since Brittney was sick and we couldn't come sing with you. I will always remember your smiling faces at our door.
