Mahalo Hawaii: Our Last Day

December 7th was our final day in Hawai'i.  We were so busy during the weeks and months leading up to the trip that it never occurred to me that we would be there for Pearl Harbor Day.  By the time I figured it out, all the tickets for the USS Arizona were sold out.

Instead of visiting Pearl Harbot, we visited the Haleiwa Farmer's market.  If there had been more time, Waimea Falls looked inviting, but we settled for fresh coconut instead.

Meanwhile, I bought jam--all the jams--from Akaka Falls Farm.  Being constrained to carry on luggage, we ordered twelve jars to be shipped back to the US.  Apparently orange ginger whiskey preserve and poi coconut butter can strongly affect your judgement.

Plus, we found a super adorable lizard.

Arriving back in Honolulu, we concluded our journey with a sunset catamaran ride aboard the Kepoikai II.  Both fun and scenic, we would highly recommend the experience.  Just be prepared to get a bit wet if you sit up front by the nets!

Pre-voyage selfies.

Looking back at our hotel.

If you like Hawaii, show me your shaka!

The last of the light slipping over the horizon.

Sounding the conch as we make our way back onto the beach.  Happy times all around!

With hours left before our red-eye flight, we still had time to catch the Pearl Harbor Day parade happening right by our hotel.

In fact, we even flew back with one of the marching bands who had come all the way from Georgia for the occasion.

Our last supper at Appetito Craft Pizza and Wine Bar.  Tasty!  Well, at least the pizza.  We didn't try the wine.

Our red-eye flight home went quite smoothly.  Even Jason managed to sleep some!  Of course, everyone was still a bit blurry eyed once we made it to Phoenix.

Annika claimed to have not slept on the flight between Phoenix and Salt Lake, but the photo evidence suggests otherwise.
Wishing you sweet dreams of special wishes come true!  Mahalo!
