New Life for our Trusty Wheels

Sometimes in life, bad things happen.  Especially in 2020.

Back at the end of May, we had a minor mishap with Omy, our minivan. The yellow concrete bollard may have gone unseen, but when it met the side of the car, it did not go unnoticed.

While the damage was just cosmetic, the insurance company unfortunately deemed it a total loss since the car is old (a 2008 Honda Odyssey.)  So sad to give away the car we love, we asked for it back and discovered they'd dismantled it considerably.  With panels missing and the side airbags visible, it suddenly felt like it belonged in a junkyard after all.  Boo.

Fortunately for us, Daddy Jason Wheeler is not only a bishop and an architect--he dabbles in auto body repair on the side.  Ever resourceful, he managed to locate a couple of retired Odyssey doors online.  At the end of the day, he managed to get our totalled van looking as good as new for around $800.  Take that, insurance!

Now don't get me wrong, the process of getting there was a lot of work.

There were moments when I wondered if we'd bitten off more than we could chew.  I love the white Odyssey driving by in the background of this photo.  I can practically hear it begging, don't cannibalize me too!

Ta da!  Amazing.  Thank you, Daddy Jason.

We appreciate you caring for our wheels as tenderly as you care for your own.
