Personally, we think Annika must be the luckiest girl ever, living right next door to boy-girl twins who are a just couple months older than she is. Here's Annie playing in the leaves with Lillian and Connor.

Next on the agenda--pumpkin painting with the Brownie Girl Scouts.
Brooklyn was lucky enough to tag along this day. Any guesses about her pumpkin's identity?
She wasn't the only honorary Brownie--her friend Jaden also got to paint since the pumpkins came from his grandparents' farm.

While all of the pumpkins were adorable, Talia's minion was my favorite. I love how she painted it sideways! This little girl's always thinking outside the box.
Back on the homefront, Daddy Jason got his hands dirty helping all the munchkins carve pumpkins.

At last, Halloween day! Annika and Eli played "Cat and Mouse" at home.
Annika's taken a new interest in wrestling. She generally wins.
Don't worry, Crookshanks. Things end poorly for Scabbers in the end.
Visiting Papa K at work. Eli enjoyed his tour of the law school, but was eager to move on to his preschool Halloween party.
Once the big kids got home, we enjoyed a quick dinner of chili and cinnamon rolls before getting ready to trick-or-treat.

NomiAnn was kind enough to pass out candy so that we could take the kids around the neighborhood.

Fun as our little skeleton and pumpkins may have been, they were nothing compared to our next-door neighbors' decor, who set up an amazingly elaborate haunted house. Fortunately we visited early in the evening before the scariest spooks emerged.
On the other side, our neighbors set up two huge bonfires to enjoy the evening.
All in all, it was delightful to spend Halloween in this older section of town where folks sit out on their front porch to greet the hordes of trick-or-treaters. So many people went all out to decorate for the evening--one house even parked a hearse in their yard! Now I'm just hoping they'll celebrate Christmas with similar zeal. :)

Hmmm ... I wonder what adult wanna-be acquired "Dusty Bones" in the first place? Halloween, done right, is "fun for the whole family" -- it seems to me the Wheeler family does Halloween right -- perhaps perfectly.
