Never Say Never

Nearly half a lifetime ago, I failed my driving test. I didn't fail very many exams during my high school years, but this was an out-and-out bomb! Since that time, I've assuaged my wounded pride by the fact that I've *never* been pulled over.

Until now. I completely missed the school zone while driving the carpool to preschool this morning, noticing only as I passed the police officer who immediately whipped his car around to follow me. What a sinking feeling! Fortunately, he took pity on me after peeking in on the three kids and screaming baby. As our preschool friend told her Mom, I didn't get taken to jail--just a warning. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson: never say never.

Hmmm ... someone anonymous remembers your first, 16 year-old, drivers license "test drive" experience. Remember too how wonderful(?) your father was to suggest that he immediatealy drive you across town to an alternate licensing bureau so that you could take the test again? Sure enough you passed the driving test a couple of hours later. So, you were spared the humiliation of explaining your "failure" to your peers. (Just so you know, it was technically illegal to re-take the driving test again without waiting 14 days ... so, ... by extension you may not have a valid license to this day and there may be an old warrant out for your arrest!) ... Don't worry, I bet your Dad will take the blame; something tells me that he would do the same thing again if necessary (and modern real-time technology would allow). So, ... keep smiling and SLOW DOWN! However, I'm proud of you for not playing the "crying Mom" card. That is way too sappy. Bye, Bye.

Don't worry. I had to pay my first speeding ticket (I think it is my first) this week. I wasn't paying attention to the radar gun when I was driving to an job interview early in the morning a couple of weeks ago. I was driving 36 km/h in a 30-driving-zone and had to pay € 15,00 for driving 6 km/h too much.

How interesting. Someone else in your household didn't pass his first driving test either. One does have to wait for the light to turn green before proceeding. I'm glad you had a compassionate officer.

This is why I quit driving . . . :) Glad that it worked out as a warning.
