Earning Our Horchata

Oops, I did it again. Let myself fall behind on this blog, that is. Instead of fretting about all I missed, let's take a moment to savor the moment.

Even though Talia and Brooklyn are moving home from BYU in a few days, I headed down to Provo this morning to celebrate Talia's final final. (She still has a project to wrap up, but all in all she's basically done!) Really, I just wanted an excuse to hike with my girl. With a pup in hand, we headed up Rock Canyon to hike Kyhv Peak. We hiked these 7.5 miles together in October and the trail was just as steep as I remembered!

Inspired by Zion's boundless energy, we eventually made it to the top with legs-a-burnin. Granted, we didn't chase quite as many butterflies (or quail or turkeys) as he did.

I tried hard not to think about how much I'm going to miss this sweetie when she's in Argentina.

Zion will miss her too.

Afterward, we picked up Brooklyn and headed to Maria Bonita's for chilaquiles and horchata. We hadn't brought snacks on our hike, so let me tell you, those chilaquiles were delicious! Even though we split one dish three ways, we were still stuffed. And ice-cold horchata after a grueling workout? Well, it just doesn't get better than that.

Driving home, Zion was so worn out that he surrendered his post barking at trucks as canine-vigilante and curled up on the passenger seat all the way home. I'm sure I will sleep well tonight too, although perhaps not as deeply as my daughters who have been burning the midnight oil cramming for finals. Or my hubby, who has been working crazy hours for work. Or Eli, who likewise has been getting far too little sleep now that AP Exams are about to start. Annika doesn't have a lot of school or work stress, but definitely struggles to nod off without her clonidine and magnesium. Come to think of it, when it comes to sleep, Zion and I are the luckiest in the family!
