Thanksgiving 2013

Not a lot of time to blog tonight as my comfy cozy bed is calling, but I thought I'd share a few Thanksgiving photos. We certainly have much to be grateful for.

For example, Wheeler Wobbles! Even though the weather was fairly frigid, we did our best to uphold the tradition of a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot by bundling up and heading out for a run/walk around Lake Zorinsky.
Papa Kay, Eli, Brooklyn, Annika, NomiAnn, and Talia.   This photo was taken shortly after Jason took off to run a second lap while the rest of us walked back to the car.

A reflective Papa Kay.

Talia Lily hops on a scooter after running a couple miles.

Apples seem to be Talia's new favorite food, despite how challenging they are to eat without any front teeth.

Bundled Up Brooklyn.

Marching along.

Annika Mae seems all tuckered out.

NomiAnn and her granddaughters.

And here's Jason, sprinting in at the last moment.  Way to race!
Back at home, it was time to put the finishing touches on the Thanksgiving feast.  Despite two days of prepping, it's always amazing how much work is left to be done.
NomiAnn with our very tasty turkey.

Seated around the table and ready to give thanks.  We were joined by Holly, a friend from church.

Papa Kay seems happy to have family gathered around.

Here are the name placards that the kids made.  We gave them  felt, scissors, and glue and let them go to town.

Photo luminaries helped us remember other family members we are thankful for, despite being miles away.
As a new tradition, everyone contributed three leaves to our thankful tree, remembering things that they felt especially grateful for this past year.  Just for the record, here are the different leaves:
  • Talia:  Thanksgiving, Music, Family and Friends
  • Eli:  Pie, Washing Machines, Pumpkins and Beans
  • Brooklyn:  Daddy coming home from New York, Sand Hollow and swimming, Tic Tac Time
  • NomiAnn:  Sons-in-law, Summer Adventures, a job that I like
  • Kara:  Annika's safe arrival, New York (how it helped us be stronger), Sea World and Solar Decathlon
  • Jason:  Abundant affordable housing (in Brooklyn, with Jay and Janet, here in Omaha), a new job, health insurance
  • Papa Kay:  Grandchildren, a safe zipline

After dinner, we took a trip downtown to hear the Nebraska Wind Symphony perform at the Holland Center.  Coming home, we had the perfect finale.  Pie!
Our dessert selections: Jason's famous apple pie and a pumpkin toffee cheesecake.
Hope your Thanksgiving was lovely as well.

Thanks for preparing the photos and posting Kara! You had every reason to be exhausted, and you found time to blog and share anyway. It was a very nice and memorable Thanksgiving day!

Looks like a perfect Thanksgiving start to finish! Really like the thanksgiving leaf idea! Will have to remember that next year. The lake is gorgeous. What beautiful country you've returned to.

One more leaf to add, if I may. We are so thankful for you and your precious family! Missed you at Thanksgiving but you were with us in thought :) That pumpkin toffee cheesecake looks like a keeper!

Lovely, as always...but is anyone else creeped out by what appear to be the infants trying to break through the glass behind Papa Kay at the Turkey Table? Just asking... :)
