Welcoming our Surprise

Despite their small town roots, the Wheeler siblings are often scattered across the nation: New York, DC, Chicago, Claremont, Columbus, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Omaha, not to mention all the international travel.  This summer was wonderfully unusual as most of the clan gathered in Utah.  Not only did Justin, Brianna, and Ruby move into a rental in the Avenues, but Christy and Ben were in Provo.  We loved connecting often!

One weekend, Christy drove up to Hyde Park and brought Brooklyn, Eli, and Annika along at the last minute.  Surprise!  Unsurprisingly, Grandma Susie and Grandpa Charles welcomed our youngsters with open arms.  Together they experienced the best Utah has to offer--hiking.  Here they are up by Tony Grove.

Without Jason around, Annika happily settled for Grandpa Charles's shoulders.

They found snow too!

Pretty sure this one was photo shopped.  ;)

These next photos came from their picnic up Smithfield Canyon.

In Annie's world, there's a direct correlation between enjoyment and dirt.

Back at home, it was Lego playtime.  As Guthrie would say, Such the best.

Meanwhile, Annika enjoyed hanging outside.

Raspberry-pickin' time.

Hey ho, the gang's [almost] all here.  Charles had a birthday so we drove up to celebrate.  Lance, we missed you!

Reading a few birthday cards.  The real stars, however, were the two pies peaking out in front of Susie.
If only life were always this delicious.
